"Defensive Kombat" is a Perth-based self-defence and tactical mix martial arts academy operating since early 2011. Our main focus is in teaching Krav Maga, which is broadly recognised as the most effective self-defence system in the world. We complement it with elements of boxing and kickboxing, kali, wing chun, Brazilian jiu jitsu, taekwondo and weapons training. We are conveniently located in Bayswater/Morley, with plenty of free parking available for students. We offer adult and children's group classes, personal training and corporate training.

We offer self-defence classes for adults and children. Adult classes run three times a week:

Tuesday 6 - 7.30 pm,

Thursday 6 - 7.30 pm,

Saturday 4 - 5.30 pm.

Children’s classes run twice a week, on weekdays before adult classes:

Tuesday 4.30 - 5.30 pm,

Thursday 4.30 - 5.30 pm.

Private training sessions are available Monday to Saturday at times that don’t overlap with group classes.

Free parking is available in the car park in front of the Academy.

Adult classes cover extensive content that can be summarised in the following broad categories:

Defence from unarmed attacks,

Defence from knife threats,

Defence from gun threats from close quarters,

Defence from bottle and baton attacks,

Defence from deranged knife attacks,

Ground defence,

Use of weapons (staff, short and long sticks (including disarms), knives and nunchucks).

Our training sessions include a warm up, striking and kicking drills, forearm drills, sparring and self-defence drills. The training also covers de-escalation techniques and legal side of use of force for self-defence.

Reasonable adjustments can be made for students suffering from a medical condition, however, we strongly encourage you to consult with your doctor prior to joining our academy.

DK Kids Group Class - Jan 2018.jpg

Children’s classes are different from adults’. While warm ups and striking/kicking practice are similar to adults’, classes for children don’t cover defence from knife, gun and bottle/baton attacks. Instead, they cover response to bullying, “stranger - danger” drills, etc. There is also a conversational component where children are taught to recognise and respond to suspicious and dangerous behaviour from adults. A part of children’s training is devoted to active games to add fun to the process.

Children’s classes are suitable for children 5 - 13 years old.  When children reach 14 years of age, they are encouraged to move to adults’ classes and start learning adult self-defence content.

Private training sessions are flexible and can be tailored to individual's needs/preferences. We offer 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 training sessions. Personal training includes kickboxing padwork drills, which are not a part of group class curriculum, and may include advanced fighting techniques and third party protection for advanced students (from brown belt).

Along with training for individuals, we offer self-defence workshops for organisations willing to provide this training to their employees for unique situations they may come across on duty or off duty. We also have experience running tailored mixed martial arts and self-defence training for high school students. Please get in touch with us to discuss your specific needs, and we will be happy to offer you content that meets them. Workshops can be run at our premises in Bayswater or at customer’s venue.

We organise regular trips to Israel where participants can undertake an extra training in krav maga with Dr. Itay Gil, participate in cultural program and learn about the region. These trips are announced several months in advance.

Participation in this training is voluntary and is not a part of our curriculum.

Our next trip to Israel is postponed due to regional instability. We will make further announcements in due course.
